Research seminar: Ethical clearance for postgraduate research

4 April

The Department of Research and Innovation Support, in collaboration with the Department of Library Services, cordially invites you to attend this research seminar.

Date: Monday, 10 April

Time:  14:00-16:00

Venue: Auditorium, Level 3, Merensky 2 Library, Hatfield Campus

Presenter: Dr Aceme Nyika

More information about the presenter: Dr Aceme Nyika is from the Department of Research and Innovation Support at the University of Pretoria. He has conducted research that has resulted in findings that have been patented (http://patents.justia.com/inventor/aceme-nyika). Having gained experience in vaccine development research, randomised clinical trials in the field, patenting of innovations, and research capacity building in developing as well as developed countries, Dr Nyika has been involved in endeavours aimed at strengthening research ethics, research integrity and good clinical practice (GCP). His passion for strengthening research ethics emanated partly from the challenges he experienced in obtaining ethical approvals for research projects some years ago and the realisation that research ethics, research integrity and GCP do not only protect the welfare of research participants but also protect the interests (and reputation) of various stakeholders including researchers, research institutions, funders of research, etc. His approach to research capacity strengthening is holistic and multi-disciplinary because in the real world there are diverse practical challenges that require well-rounded resource persons to effectively tackle them.

Target audience: Researchers and postgraduate students

RSVP electronically by Sunday, 9 April
