Varsity College Teaching Courses

If you can read this, thank a teacher! The chances are, they taught you to read and do most of the everyday things you’ve been doing pretty much all of your life. As a fundamental part of education systems the world over, teachers are the very reason that most of us enjoy the careers that we have today. Think you’d like to mould the minds of tomorrow’s leaders? Then one of the teaching courses at Varsity College is waiting for you.
Today, teachers form one of the most in demand groups of professionals. This is not only because of the growing number of children within the education system but also because they perform a vital role within society. Without people studying teaching courses and following their passion, many of the basic skills, societal norms and values would not progress through the generations. Furthermore, South Africa’s future would undoubtedly be in jeopardy.
How can you pursue a rewarding career in teaching? With Varsity College, you have a few different avenues that you can use to get you there!

  • A Bachelor of Arts Degree with postgraduate study
A popular choice of course at Varsity College. This is because many BA students who decide to pursue teaching later on can add to their degree with a post graduate qualification instead of changing courses entirely. A BA also allows for a bit of flexibility if you are unsure of which career path you are leaning towards.
  • A Bachelor of Education Degree in Foundation Phase Teaching
The course for those who like the idea of teaching grades R to 3. This is a four-year degree and has been structured in line with the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications (July 2011). It also meets Higher Education Qualifications Framework guidelines.
  • A Bachelor of Education Degree in Intermediate Phase Teaching
For those interested in teaching grades 4 to 7, this a four year course. It meets the same requirements and structuring standards as the BEd. Foundation Phase.

All of these courses foster an approach to life-long learning. This means that they encourage students to continue growing and improving themselves so that they may impart this on their classes one day. Should you study any of these courses, you can pursue a range of educational positions other than just teaching alone. You can fill a school management role, take up educational consultancy and even consider school counselling.
