B Theology

The Bachelor of Theology (BTh) degree prepares students either for the ordained ministry in a Christian church, or for a wider engagement in society from a theologically responsible position. The degree introduces students to the four basic disciplines of theology, namely Biblical Studies and Literature, the History of Christianity, Practical Theology and Systematic Theology in the first two years, and then students are able to major in one or two of these disciplines in the third year.
Structure
Each module is worth 16 credits. Students must take at least 4 modules at Level 3 in the discipline in which they major – see below.

  1. i) In total, students require 8 modules (128 credits) at the 300 level.
  2. ii) 4 of these 8 modules are compulsory: SYTH310; PRTH341; BIST310; and HICH311

iii) 3 of the remaining 4 modules must contribute to the major

  1. iv) The remaining module is a 300-level elective chosen from any of the other modules listed below
  2. v) Not all of the following modules are offered every year.

B Theology

HUM-BTH1 Structure

  1. a)  Students shall complete BIST110 and 120. With permission of Dean and Head of School, two modules of another language may be permitted in fulfilment of this requirement.
  2. b) Students intending to major in Practical Theology are required to do two level 2 Practical Theology modules.
