BEng Chemical Engineering UP

The Faculty is organised in four Schools: Engineering, Built Environment, Information Technology and Graduate School of Technology Management.
Chemical engineering is not only involved in the production of chemicals on an industrial scale, but also with the industrial processes that convert raw materials into products of a higher monetary value by means of physical, chemical, thermal, biochemical and mechanical changes. Such processes are applied in the oil, coal, fuel, paper, food and textile industries and also in mineral processing, water and effluent treatment and the generation of electrical power. These industries are collectively referred to as the processing industry. There are few industries that do not employ people with chemical engineering training.

The undergraduate programme is presented in English and Afrikaans (separate classes), but postgraduate modules are presented only in English.
It is the aim of the Department to produce graduates who are capable of making a contribution to the growth of the country, who are well-equipped to apply their understanding of chemical engineering principles to the many challenges and opportunities locally, but who can also make significant contributions in the international arena.
