UP Corporate Wellness Programme: Group Exercise Interventions – Fitness Support Group

11 May

The UP Corporate Wellness Programme, presented in partnership with the Bestmed Medical Scheme, will be continuing the organising of support groups to contribute towards improving the health and wellbeing of all UP employees through education and stimulating activities that support positive lifestyle changes.

The group exercise interventions we present, such as Pilates and the fitness support group, are designed to get participants to engage in fitness activities in groups, which is usually more beneficial to a person’s health than working alone. The aims of this initiative are to motivate employees to start exercising, to create awareness of individual fitness and to build a community of like-minded individuals.

The first fitness support group, namely the ‘How-to-train-for-my-first-5 km group’ will be introduced. This support group will be available to all UP employees who want to adopt a more active lifestyle and will enable them to incorporate fitness activities into their daily lives and to challenge themselves to complete a 5 km race either walking or jogging.

The fitness support group will be led by a Bestmed biokineticist and an attendance register will be kept. Please note that participation is voluntary.

Join our first fitness support group ‘How-to-train-for-my-first-5 km group’ by attending the information session on 19 May at 12:30 in Lecture Hall 2-2.7, Natural Sciences 1 Building, Hatfield Campus. The session will cover ways on how to train towards embarking and finishing your first 5 km race and focus on the different steps in setting and achieving your personal goal. Exercise and training tips on stretching will be demonstrated and you will also have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who wish to take part in this challenge. Finally, you will receive an informative booklet summarising the important aspects of the session.
