Admission Requirements
A student needs a three year degree in Communication Studies with an average pass rate of 60% for each of the journalism related modules (KCOM111, KCOM121, KCOM221/229, KCOM371) to be admitted to the curriculum, or an equivalent qualification with a pass rate of 60% for selected modules.

A student needs an average of at least 60% for the third year communication research module, namely KCOM311 or an equivalent module.

If a student complies with the above admission requirements, they will be invited to an internal selection process.

This includes a written test to assess general knowledge (for example in the fields of history, politics, literature and geography), news instinct and language proficiency.

The test will be followed by an interview with lecturers and members of the School of Languages.

The test and interview will take place in September/October at the School of Languages.

Students will be informed whether their application was successful or not.

Complete the official Application for Continuation of Studies form (if you are already a registered student of the NWU) – available at/or the University Application Form (if it is your first application for study at the NWU) – available at http://www.nwu.ac.za/prospective-students. Admission fee: R150.00
All applicants are screened before admission. Students need to follow the official application procedure via the Admission Office of the North-West University’s Vaal Triangle Campus. Applications close on the 1st September in the year prior of study.
