Welcome to the homepage of the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (SMCS)! The SMCS is one of the four in the Faculty of Science and Agriculture (FSA) at the University of Limpopo. It comprises three departments, namely, Computer Science (COSC), Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (MAM), and Statistics and Operations Research (STOR) all of which offer programmes that cut across the entire faculty and spread to schools in other faculties. For this reason, the SMCS is the largest school in the FSA with a student population of over 2,000 students enrolled in our Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science Honours, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
Socio-economic development and technological advancement are dependent on solid mathematical and computational skills, and hence a qualification in applied mathematical sciences or computer science is the most sought-after in the 21st century.

Vision
The School is devoted to the attainment of the highest possible standards of excellence in teaching and learning activities, in research for the production of knowledge, and outreach programmes that render the mathematical sciences to be a key component of the African renaissance, and consequently engender life-long learning.

Mission
The School is committed to excellence in research, providing knowledge/expertise for regional development, and dedicated to the production of highly qualified, adaptable, self-directed, resourceful and multi-skilled graduates and other trainees.

School in Brief
The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences is the mathematical hub of the University of Limpopo and the Limpopo Province in general. Housed in the Faculty of Science and Agriculture, the School offers undergraduate and postgraduate mathematical sciences and computer science programmes and courses that span across all faculties, and outreach programmes that impact on government officials, as well as schools and communities in the Province.  The School has the following main programmes: Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research and Statistics.
