TOURISM MANAGEMENT

ND: (National Diploma)

Cape Peninsula University of Technology Tourism Management, The tourism industry regards generalised management and entrepreneurial skills, as well as specialist skills, to be prerequisites for the sustained growth of the industry. The course provides management-oriented education, emphasising entrepreneurship and incorporating the required practical skills and experience.Students are trained as technicians, technologists, managers, entrepreneurs and academics.
Career Opportunities
A career in tourism allows for great diversity as well as specialisation. The South African tourism industry employs almost half a million people, either directly or indirectly. This figure is expected to double and effective management in this sector has become vital.Employment opportunities exist in the following sectors: accommodation and hospitality, distribution channels (e.g. travel agents), transportation, travel planning, management and co-ordination (e.g. regional tourism organisations), and marketing.

Note:
Limited number of students allowed per elective.Student enrolling for Tourist Guiding or Event Management must please note that excursions and practical experience can be conducted over weekends and public holidays.
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning takes place from October of the second year to March of the third year, to coincide with the peak tourist season. The second year examinations are written during September of the second year.
